3 videos that ask “are you living the life you want?”

Are you passionate about life?

Are you giving what you can?

Are you living your life?

Here are 3 videos that aim to inspire, engage and get you thinking if you are living the life you want!

Isabel Allende: How to live passionately—no matter your age

Isabel Allende, author of Aphrodite: The Love of Food & the Food of Love, and many more sensual novels, tells us how to live passionately as we age and says:

Meditation helps….and it’s good to start early, and, Say YES to life

Peter Singer: The why and how of effective altruism

The New Yorker calls Peter Singer the worlds “most influential living philosopher.” An Australian academic and ethics expert at Princeton and the University of Melbourne, Singer says:

My work is based on the assumption that clarity and consistency in our moral thinking is likely, in the long run, to lead us to hold better views on ethical issues.

In this video he talks about effective altruism and how giving has helped save many millions of lives.  Whether or not you agree with what the philanthropists he refers to are doing, this is still  a powerful video that asks you to think about giving what you can when you can.  Altruism is more than charity, it is giving ethically because it is the right thing to do, because you can help those less fortunate, and it is giving with time or money, and most importantly with kindness.

Alan Watts: What do you desire?

Alan Watts was a British philosopher who had a way of simplifying eastern philosophy for the western mind. Many of his lectures and recordings are shared on the internet. In this short video he asks: “What would you like to do if money were no object?”

In chasing money instead of following our passions we are asked to consider what sort of life we are creating for ourselves. Watts explains,

You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is to go on doing things you don’t like doing… which is stupid!! Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.
