DB Green – a new year for volunteering

I’m very proud to say that I volunteer for our local community environmental non-profit in Discovery Bay, DB Green.  We have just finished planning the community environmental activities for 2013 and I thought I’d take this opportunity in my blog to highlight all the great events that are coming up.

Community Meeting

The first most important event I want to tell you about is a community meeting we are holding on Feb 20 at Hemingway’s.  We invite anyone from the community to join us to find out more about what we do, what we have planned, and what skills we need more of in helping us make DB Green an effective and fun eco organization in our community.  There will be giveaways including food from Hemingway’s and wine from our other main sponsor Barefoot wines.

Monthly Beach Cleanups

These are the dates for the 2013 beach cleanups.  If you have friends in Discovery Bay, share this post with them to let them know about our beach cleanups.  Our first cleanup is this Saturday Feb 16.

Tree Planting

Our tree planting activities will continue with dedicated souls who acquire the saplings and arrange the planting and watering dates.  This should start in March and goes through to May/June.

Fund Raising

We are planning a few fund raising events during the year…have to pay for those trees with something!  But the main events are the quarterly flea markets.  Bring along any old clothes, toys, electronics, books, really anything that can be reused or recycled and given some new love by someone else.  The first flea market for the year is this Sunday Feb 17.

Eco Movie nights

In association with Hemingway’s we are also planning to show some really cool movies, eco-doco’s of-course, but they are guaranteed to fire up your interest in environmental and ethical matters.

So there we go, these are some of the fabulous activities we have planned for 2013.  I’ll be posting more about them here, and you can also visit our facebook page and our website.  If you like what you see, you have friends or family in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, or you live here yourself, then come along to our community meeting on Feb 20, have a glass of wine, grab some nibbles and see if there something you can do to help make your community a better place.
